Frequently Asked Questions

Edgewood Studio — Custom Solid Wood Furniture

Ordering & Custom Design

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Nearly every piece we make is custom-designed. Whether you’re looking for a dining table, coffee table, desk, or specialty piece, we work with you to choose the wood species, slab layout, dimensions, base style, and finish.

How does the custom design process work?

We begin with a conversation about what you need — function, size, style, and how you use the space. Once we understand the direction, we walk you through wood selection, base options, and finish choices. Drawings, photos, and videos help you visualize the piece before production begins.

Can I bring a slab from my own property?

Absolutely. Many clients create a piece from a tree that fell on their land. We love projects with personal history.

Do you offer design consultations?

Yes. We can meet in person (if local) or virtually to review your space, measure, and determine what dimensions or designs best fit your home.

Materials & Craftsmanship

What types of wood do you use?

We primarily build with full slabs of walnut, oak, cherry, maple, ambrosia, and other specialty hardwoods. We prioritize sustainably sourced lumber with excellent grain structure and stability.

Do you use solid wood or veneers?

Our focus is always on solid wood, especially for tables, tops, and structural components. However, for certain cabinetry or furniture pieces, we may incorporate high-grade plywood or premium veneers when the design calls for it or when a client is working within a specific budget.
We never use particleboard, MDF core with paper veneers, or low-quality hardware. Drawer boxes, structural elements, and visible surfaces are always built to a high standard with quality materials and professional-grade slides.
If you’re interested, we also offer three levels of cabinet construction — from full hardwood builds to hybrid designs that balance craftsmanship with budget.

What finish do you use?

We use durable, low-VOC, professional-grade finishes that enhance natural grain while providing everyday protection. Options include matte, satin, and high-gloss.

Extendable Tables & Hardware

Can the leaves be self-storing?

Yes — many of our designs allow for self-storing leaves depending on the table’s dimensions, base style, and structural needs.

Do you offer round extendable tables?

Yes. Round extendable tables are available with folding, butterfly, or separated-leaf systems.

Resin River Tables

What resin colors do you offer?

We offer a wide range: clear, smoky, ocean blue, emerald, gold, ruby, black, pearl, and custom tints. We can match your décor or reference inspiration photos.

Will the resin yellow over time?

We use premium resins with excellent UV resistance. Proper care and avoiding prolonged direct sunlight help maintain clarity for decades.

How durable are resin tables?

Once cured, resin is extremely strong and water-resistant — ideal for daily use in coffee tables, dining tables, and side tables.

Pricing & Payment

How do you price custom work?

Pricing depends on size, wood species, thickness, hardware, complexity, and finish. We provide detailed estimates after discussing your project.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A deposit is required to reserve slabs, begin design work, and secure your place in the build schedule.

Are payment plans available?

We can structure payment milestones throughout the build timeline. Just ask.

Lead Times & Delivery

How long does a custom piece take?

Typical lead times range from 8–14 weeks, depending on complexity and the current production schedule. Larger projects may take slightly longer.

Do you deliver?

Yes. We offer local delivery in the mid-Atlantic region and can arrange white-glove shipping nationwide through trusted carriers.

Do you ship internationally?

International shipping may be possible depending on the size and type of piece.

Care & Maintenance

How should I care for my table?

Clean with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or silicone-based polishes. Hot items should be placed on trivets. Our finishes are durable but still benefit from basic care.

Do I need to use a coaster? Will a glass leave a ring?

Our solid-wood tables are finished with a durable, cocktail- and coffee-proof finish — the same finish we use on our custom dining tables that expect daily use. A cold drink or morning coffee will not leave rings under normal circumstances.
Coasters are still a good habit for very hot items or moisture left sitting for long periods.

Do solid wood tables move or change over time?

Yes — wood is a natural material that breathes with seasonal changes. Our construction and joinery allow for normal expansion and contraction without affecting structural integrity.

Do you offer maintenance or refinishing?

Yes. We can refresh, repair, or refinish your piece as needed over the years.

Cutting Board Care

How do I care for my hardwood cutting board?

Our solid wood cutting boards are built for everyday use. To keep yours in excellent condition:

  • Wash by hand with warm water and mild soap

  • Never put it in the dishwasher — heat and steam can warp solid wood

  • Dry upright to allow moisture to evaporate

  • Condition the surface with Edgewood Studio Cutting Board Wax whenever the board looks dry

  • Avoid leaving liquids or acidic foods sitting on the surface

Should I disinfect my cutting board?

Yes, occasionally — but avoid harsh chemicals.

  • Do not use bleach — it will lighten the grain and dry out the wood

  • Use a vinegar + water solution for safe disinfection

  • Salt + lemon can also clean and deodorize naturally

Can I cut meat on my board?

Yes — just wash and fully dry it afterward. Some clients designate one side for meats and the other for produce.

Appointments & Studio Visits

Can I visit your studio?

Yes — studio visits are by appointment. You can view slabs, discuss ideas, and see works in progress.

How do I schedule a consultation?

You can reach out through the contact form on our website, email us directly at info@edgewoodstudio.com, or message us on Instagram @edgewoodstudiofurniture.

Warranty & Policies

What kind of warranty do you offer?

Our custom furniture includes a 3-year limited warranty covering defects in craftsmanship, structural issues, hardware failures, and finish adhesion under normal residential use. Natural wood movement, wear from daily use, or damage from improper care are not covered.

Do your cutting boards and small home goods have a warranty?

Yes — all wooden boards and home goods include a 1-year limited warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. Proper care is required for coverage.

Are returns accepted?

We accept returns on non-custom pieces within 14 days. Items must be in original condition, and return shipping is the buyer’s responsibility.
Custom work is non-returnable.

How do I submit a warranty claim?

Email us with your name, order details, photos, and a description of the issue. Claims apply only to the original purchaser.
